BioMers Products is exploring new applications within the field of dentistry for its proprietary fabrication technology. One dental specialty receiving immediate attention is endodontics. Efforts are underway to develop a superior performing dental post. The new post will have improved mechanical properties, which better matches the dentin of teeth. Material selection for this new design is similar to present day glass fiber posts; thereby retaining the favourable aesthetics, biocompatibility and retention.
The demand for more invasive dental procedures involving dental posts is forecast to rise with the aging of the baby boomer population. This trend is further supported by more and more baby boomers are electing to keep their teeth longer. The present market value for endodontics worldwide is estimated to be $1 billion per annum.
