ASTICS® Retainer

Upon completion of orthodontic treatment a retainer is prescribed to retain teeth in their ideal position. Traditionally, an acrylic retainer with a front metal wire is prescribed for a two year period. Many late teens and adults view the front metal wire of a retainer as unsightly. In response to this consumer dissatisfaction, BioMers Products developed the translucent ASTICS retainer, which is made using the company's patented fabrication technology. The flexibility of the fabrication technology allows the production of custom translucent wires that match the mechanical properties of metal wires. The ASTICS retainer wire is rigid. Once formed into a shape, it retains its shape and thus provides the necessary rigidity to function clinically.

A large scale clinical trial was conducted at a leading U.S. orthodontic school. All patients participating in the study retained ideal tooth position long after the conclusion of the study. Supporting clinical evidence is provided below.

The ASTICS retainer is registered with the U.S. FDA and other international regulatory bodies making it available for sale in the U.S., Europe, Canada, Australia and many other international countries.

Aside from providing the translucent ASTICS retainer, which predominantly targets late teens and adults, colored versions of the retainer will be introduced in the latter half of 2009. In place of the translucent wire, hot pink and blue wires will be offered that appeal to the early teen market segment.
